Copyright & Attribution

Pro Bible respects the rights of Bible translation publishers and providers. This page explains how we source and attribute scripture on our site.

Our Approach

The Bible text displayed on Pro Bible comes from third-party sources. We do not claim ownership of any Bible translation. Our goal is to make Scripture accessible for free, personal reading while honoring the copyright and licensing terms of each translation.

Where a translation is in the public domain (e.g. the King James Version in many jurisdictions) or is made available under an open license (such as Creative Commons), we may use it in accordance with those terms. For each translation we use, we store and display attribution text as provided by the source so that readers and publishers can see the correct credit.

Sources of Bible Content

Many of the translations available on Pro Bible are loaded from fetch(bible), a project that provides Bible text in a standardized format. Fetch(bible) aggregates content that is either in the public domain or released under open licenses (e.g. CC BY). When we import a translation from fetch(bible), we also import the copyright and attribution information provided by that project and display it where the scripture is shown (for example, on the Read page).

Some translations on our site may be seeded or provided from other trusted sources. In all cases, we aim to respect the stated license and attribution requirements of the rightsholders.

If you are a copyright holder and believe we have used your material without proper permission or attribution, please contact us via our Contact page. We will respond promptly and, where appropriate, correct or remove the content.

Where to See Attribution

When you read a passage on the Read page, we display the name of the translation you selected. For translations that include copyright or attribution text (for example, from fetch(bible)), that text is stored in our system and can be shown near the scripture or in the translation details. We encourage users to respect these attributions when sharing or referencing content from our site.

You can also see which translations are available on our Translations page. Each translation has an associated name and, where applicable, attribution information that we received from the source.

Using Scripture From Pro Bible

Pro Bible is intended for personal, non-commercial reading and reference. If you wish to quote, reproduce, or distribute Bible text that you found on our site, you are responsible for complying with the copyright and attribution requirements that apply to that specific translation. Those terms are set by the rightsholders, not by Pro Bible.

We do not grant you any license to the Bible text beyond what is already granted by the underlying source or rightsholder. For formal or commercial use of a translation, please consult the publisher or the license terms published by the source (e.g. fetch(bible) or the translation's official website).
